Every day, New Mexico’s lost and homeless pets end up in our animal shelters through no fault of their own. Whether lost, surrendered, or homeless, each deserves a second chance at life and to be part of a loving family. Unfortunately, across the state, approximately 100,000 companion animals annually are not making it out of our animal control and shelter systems alive. As has been proven in an ever-growing number of diverse communities across the United States, 97%-98% of these animals are savable, healthy and adoptable or treatable and soon to be adoptable. For a large percentage of our homeless pets there is great hope, their second chance does exist.
